I taught for 20 years in various roles in schools including senior leadership working in national roles, and leading a DfE Lead Practitioner programme. For 10 years I worked as a university senior lecturer, teaching a range of programmes including PGCE courses and a Master's in Educational Leadership. My main experience has been in training and supporting teachers and supporting professional development is central to my role at Great Schools Trust.
As the Head of the Institute of Character & Leadership (IoCL), my role is to support teachers in their career development to ensure they have an impact in the classroom and with the teams they work in. I work with each of our academies to ensure that every teacher has the skills and knowledge to be an outstanding teacher and leader by putting research-informed theory into practice. My work on the IOCL extends to all staff who work in our trust to support a learning culture and whole staff development.
Teachers can ignite a passion for lifelong learning and have a huge impact every day they walk into the school building. The idea of being a role model is an important one for teachers who need to inspire and motivate their students. I encourage all our staff to support new teachers and be role models by sharing their expertise through mentoring. My passion for the role comes from my belief that we are all lifelong learners, and as educators, we must always be learning how to teach better and how to understand our learners.
