I first joined Great Schools Trust in 2021 as the Personal Development Officer for King's Leadership Academy Warrington. My background in working with youth comes from my 17 years as a Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer (CFAV), supporting cadets through activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh's award (DofE), leadership, adventure training and foot drill.
As the Personal Development Training Officer, it's my role to provide training assurance to ensure all aspects of the Trust specialism in Character and Leadership are being met, acting as the deputy to the Head of Personal Development. By offering guidance and support to the Personal Development Officers in each academy, we are collectively able to deliver programmes such as the DofE award, Combined Cadet Force, Character Residentials and the Leadership curriculum.
I firmly believe that the outdoors can be used as a tool to inspire and challenge young people whilst giving them real world examples of what they are learning about in the classroom. The outdoor education offer within Great Schools Trust allows all students to benefit from the increased health and well-being that being outdoors provides, irrespective of their background or previous experiences, whilst helping to meet the Trust mission of developing successful citizens.
