Apprenticeship Success

Ibrahim Matadar has successfully completed his Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship and is looking forward to advancing his career within the Great Schools Trust.

Ibrahim, who has been interested in IT from a young age, decided to embark upon his apprenticeship as “it was the perfect combination of hands-on experience and formal learning.” He felt an apprenticeship within the Great Schools Trust would allow him to gain valuable skills whilst making a real impact by supporting staff and students with their tech-related requirements.

Ibrahim has enjoyed his apprenticeship immensely, and one of his favourite aspects of the role was having the opportunity to take on a wide variety of tasks, from troubleshooting network issues to setting up new schools the trust had acquired. Throughout his apprenticeship, Ibrahim developed a range of technical skills, such as diagnosing and fixing hardware issues and managing networks, as well as soft skills including communication and teamwork. The skills he has gained have made him feel much more confident in his ability to handle complex IT systems and work collaboratively with others. Ibrahim also “appreciated the sense of community within the trust,” and enjoyed seeing how his work contributed to keeping things running smoothly within the schools.

Ibrahim describes the support from his colleagues and the trust as a whole as “fantastic.” He states: “My manager and colleagues were always willing to help, whether it was answering technical questions or providing guidance on best practices. The trust as a whole was very supportive of my development, giving me the space to learn through practical experience while still being there if I needed backup.”

The Great Schools Trust has now offered Ibrahim a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Tech Solutions, which will allow him to specialise in his main interest – IT Consultancy. He is keen to take on more responsibility within his role at the trust and is interested in moving into an IT consultant/ solutions architect role in the future.

Ibrahim would definitely recommend the apprenticeship route to others, as it’s a “great way to gain real-world experience whilst earning qualifications. I’ve come out of this apprenticeship feeling prepared and confident to take the next step in my career.”
